Day 20 - Take Back My Basement!

Guten Morgen!
Starting Weight - down 6.3 pounds (+3.0 from yesterday)

Now this is a little bit of a bloated number.  I was actualy quite surprised by yesterday's low weight in + I knew that yesterday's intake would be rough.  I expected to "undo" this +3.0 in the next 4 days putting me right where I should be at that point.

Breakfast - Nature Valley Peanut Butter and Dark Chocolate Protein Bar.  These are QUITE good if you never had them.  But they are pretty pricy.  This is one of those things that you have to get at Costco.  They are I think almost $1 apiece at the supermarket in the box but at Costco, they are about $0.55 each.  Good quick breakfast if you are stuck and also a good mid-morning snack if you didn't have a big breakfast.

Lunch - Cold cut sandwich - turkey, pepperoni, yellow american on an everything bagel thin.  I'll call this "ol' Faithful."  :-)  Press it on the George Foreman grill and it's a gourmet sandwich.  hahaha.

Snacking - 2 rice krispie treats and samples of dinner as I was cooking (keep reading!)

Dinner - This was different and very good.  Probably one of the less healthy meals due to 1 decision I made, but it was glorious!!!!   I roasted a turkey breast with mashed potatoes and Pillsbury Crescent rolls.  Now the crescent rolls were definitely very unnecessary BUT It's very important to treat yourself to things like that otherwise I'm just staring failure in the face.

(I'm not sure why these pictures will not turn, but I'm stuck with them this way.)

Now let's talk about the Turkey - this was a GREAT choice.  I have actually never made a little turkey breast before and it was great!  We got a 3 pounder and just baked it for 2 hours in the oven.  I didn't even need to season it or anything.  Easiest thing ever to cook!   And would definitely feed a family of 4 (as long as it's not 4 of me!  a typical overeating dad, normal eating mom and 2 kids middle school and under - I think that this $12 turkey would feed us all easily.

Now the mashed potatoes - I never actually just made some mashed potatoes before for dinner.  it was always only for Thanksgiving or a big event and Kristyn was usually in charge of that.  so this was not as bad as I thoguht it was going to be.  I just used 8 small baked potatoes from a bag ($2.50 for the whole bag.)  Peeled, cut and boiled.  Threw a little milk and butter into it and they were mashed literally in 15 seconds.  And delicious after adding a pinch of salt.  :-)

Let's discuss this bag of Potatoes because it gets my prize for the best value of the month.  One bag of potatoes for $2.50 and I used it for 4 cooked meals.  twice we made baked potatoes on the grill with our burgers.  Then 2 days ago, I made the home made fries out of them and then for this meal, the mashed potatoes.  Not only that, but I think it's the first time I ever bought a bag of potatoes and actually finished it!!!  So that's another prize.

And finally the crescent rolls - ya know, sometimes you just need to do something like that, ya know?I used Country Crock margarine on it and I had 3 of them.  I know, I know.  Not my best moment, but I'm good with it.  I worked hard today on the basement so I'm rewarding myself.

Snacking - I did not snack tonight.  Just let myself bask in the glory of the meal I made and dream of tomorrow's turkey sandwich for lunch.

Proud Moment of the Day:  So in mid-April, I had the bright idea to rip apart my garage and redo it.  To do this, we had to empty the entire garage into the basement, and we have a lot of stuff!  I told Kristyn it would be finished in time for her sprinkle on May 19.  The problem is that any time you rip anything apart, you have to expect to find issues.  We found some things we had to take care of that delayed us.  Fast forward - in mid-June, we finally started work on painting the walls, repairing the floor, sealing it and then putting the epoxy (or whatever this actually mixture is called) down on it.  Then 3 days to dry and finally we can start loading everything back in.  Took me a few days but I got on a roll and completely finished the job of emptying my basement last night back into the garage to that the basement can become usable again!  I still have to do a good cleaning in the basement and I need to get 2 big shelves to add to the 3 I have as well as a big tool chest.  THEN I have to bolt the shelves into the walls for safety.    So I'm not ACTUALLY done, but the bottom line is that my basement - it's back!  So excited to get back to using it, because everyone knows how much I love my basement, which is now mold free - that was a project from the Winter that we had to take care of.  :-)
