Day 5 - approaching 10 lb mark already!

Starting Weight - 233.5 (down 9.8 lb from New Year's Day)  Now this was a late weigh in (9:15am) but I'll take it.  That will motivate me not to screw up today so I can maintain the loss for tomorrow.  :-)

Weight Loss Plan - Unofficial - so I did this weight loss calculator.  For my age, weight, height and slightly active daily life, to maintain weight, I can have up to 2,650 calories.  To lose weight, I should cut down to 2,150.  To lose fast, 1,650.  This is obviously a very loose estimate and will change as I drop the poundage.  That being said, i'll try to see if I can try to get somewhere in between the 1600 and 2100 on a somewhat consistent basis.  I think it's a realistic goal and very doable without starving myself.

Pre-Breakfast Snack - 1 Ferrero Rochet ball.  This is about 80 calories and it was glorious.

Breakfast - Forgot to take a photo.  ARGH.  I made my first breakfast sandwich of the new year.  2 egg whites, 1 whole egg - scrambled.  3 pieces of turkey sausage and 2 slices of light wheat bread.  Comes out to about 275 calories for the breakfast. I also had a glass of Trop 50.  Most filling breakfast I've had all year!  :-)

Story Time - So we went grocery shopping today.  I told Kristyn I wanted to go too because I'm already getting bored with the same old snacks and I need to get some variety so I don't get bored and start to act out. :-)  So it also turned out that it was the CAN CAN sale at Shop Rite.  This turned into good, but bad news!  First stop after the produce aisle was the back of the produce aisle which had a ton of cans. Grabbed 16 cans of various stuff - black beans, corn, chicken broth, kidney beans, chick peas, yadda yadda.  Only .50 each, so how could I not?

Then we got to the snack aisle and much to our delight, Fiber One snacks (5 to a pack) were part of the CAN CAN sale, so they were only $1.77 each.  We grabbed like 5 different ones.

Then came the soup aisle.  The big progresso soups - my favorite being the Pasta E Fagioli (or macaroni & bean.)  They are normally $2.29 each.  On sale for $1.50.  BUT you can buy 10 for $10.  OMG!  Let's Go!  Got a variety of soups. Moving to the frozen aisle - I grabbed 6-7 different frozen dinners - Lean Cuisine, Smart Ones, etc. This soup and TV dinner binge is to stock at school for when I forget to bring my leftovers.  Normally, I'd resort to chicken fingers, wings and Mac & cheese OR I'd go for pizza, but now I'm set for awhile.

The next can can special was the Gatorade!  12 for $9 - these are the big 32 oz ones.  This will last us a LONG time.  Got 6 of the low calorie one (which is only 75 calories for the whole bottle) and 6 regular (which are 200 calories for the whole bottle)  I can't see myself drinking more than half of one every day, and I really don't think I'd do it every day anyway.

Grabbed my 7 gallons of water for the week, lots of baby food and of course, the real food that we need for dinners, etc.  Even grabbed some grapes, strawberries and an apple for healthy snacking, as opposed to portioned snacking.

All in all, if we take away the baby food and stuff, the bill was $171.  I have to go back for the chicken ($4.99/lb, tomorrow going on sale for $1.99) and the shrimp (oops, forgot it!)  SO that will likely bring us up to the $200 mark.  BUT we are set with a lot of the non-perishables for probably the month or even longer with some of the stuff.  Why do I tell you this?  Because I want to try to get a realistic gauge of how much money we really save by eating home and not spending money frivolously on food for no good reason.  The way I see it, estimating on the low end, if we were to eat out every single meal, cheaply, it would cost Kristyn and I at minimum $350 for the week.  That being said, a $200 bill every week at the supermarket would be acceptable!  But judging from our cart, pantry, fridge and closets, there is not way we'll need to spend that every week.  :-)
btw, this was their first trip together to the grocery store!!!!

For lunch, I had the leftover Sloppy Joe.  Even picked up an extra baked potato to make it a more hearty meal than it would have been.  btw, about baked potatoes - they take forever to bake.  Did you know that if you pop it in the microwave for 5 minutes or so, you cut down significantly on the cook time?  Last night in the oven - 90 minutes.  Today, 5 minutes in the microwave, 25 in the oven.  ALMOST the same.  I think I should have left them in 5-10 minutes more, but still.  Great option if you don't want to wait forever for your potato.

SNACK TIME!!!!  I know, these things are silly.  BUT it's cheap, portioned and just enough "Cheat" to keep me happy for a couple hours or so.  Love my crappy cheese and crackers packets.  Also, Kristyn grabbed some baked chips variety at Costco.  (need to check the costco bill too since I was not on that trip. . . . . . . )  I also snuck in a Ferrero Rochet somewhere in there.  Almost forgot about that!

DINNER - Kristyn made another delicious meal tonight.  Cashew chicken stir fry over cauliflower rice.  While I will never admit to liking the Caul. rice better than real rice, I will say that when seasoned correctly, I am very happy to eat it as a bed for my dinner.  The savings in carbs while replacing with a veggie is undeniable and as long as you keep it moist and seasoned, it's a great option.  Very smart and healthy.  BUT definitely pricy.  It's like $3.99 for a packet that is good for us to each have dinner and then I get a leftover.  As opposed to regular rice which is $3.99 for a huge box that will last like 6-7 meals.  It's ok.  Can't be cheap about things.  We are on a mission of health, and we are already saving money in the process, so it's all good.

(Colorful, isn't it?)

Snacking at night - so I forgot that I had these!  Bought a box of 60 of them at Costco before the new year. It was like $10.  $0.17 snack?  I'll take it!

ok, only kidding - I had 2 of these.  As Frank the Tank says, it feels so good . . . .when it hits your lips!   I took one bite of this and it was like crack!  I am lucky I didn't binge on like 15 of them right then and there!

Water Intake - I had no gallons and we didn't go to the supermarket until after 11am.  We got home around 1pm and starting a gallon at that point seemed daunting, so I decided to do my best with bottles of water today.  I think 7 and a half would be a gallon.  I got through 7 bottles!
