Day 6 - 7/7/23 - Honeymoon Is Over!

What happened to the weight loss?  BANG ZOOM - TO THE MOON, ALICE!

So, it's clear that the honeymoon is over.  Ya know how it goes.  Start a new diet, it's so far off from what you were doing before that the weight melts off the first few days, in spite of a couple of imperfections.  Then you get a little overconfident and allow yourself a little bit of space and realize that you are 42 and it's not that easy anymore!  And here we are.  6 days in and the nice starting push was nice, but now it's time to get a little more serious.

The above is my reaction on the morning of 7/8/23, as I read this and the weight is up again by a pound from yesterday.  I know why it happened, but while it was happening last night, for some reason, I was overconfident that I did well enough all day that this would not blow it.  Let's get to it:

Breakfast:  Changed it up a little today.  Had a smoothie and some potatoes.  This time, i seasoned the potatoes with salt, pepper, garlic, onion and Frank's Red Hot, as well as some ketchup.  The smoothie - this is an oldie but goodie that I have made for years.  I use Trop 50 OJ, a whole banana and some frozen mixed berries.  Pop it in the blender and voila!  BREAKFAST!

Lunch:  Today, I had my usual salad, a piece of spicy chicken in the air fryer and 2 mac & cheese bites.  (See this is the problem.  Added the mac & cheese bites to the salad AND chicken.  Those little bits of addition make the difference.)

Snack: Honestly, I can't really remember.  I have not been snacking all that much.  I feel like it's possible I had something small, but I really don't remember doing it - so maybe I didn't!

Dinner:  Kristyn had marinated some chicken with some sort of Italian marinade.  She requested we try it on the Blackstone, so naturally, I obliged!

This was delicious!!  I also made some breaded and air fried zucchini and squash and we had split a bag of rice.  Where did I go wrong with this meal?  I was fine after 1 piece of chicken, but I had 2.  Not the end of the world, but again - just a little thing that adds up if you do something little at each meal.  This photo is the whole dinner, MINUS 1 additional piece of chicken.  In the end, really good dinner!   Quinoa would may be healthier, but I don't really like it, so that's not gonna be much of an option.

Snack:
So here is where things go off the rails.  It all happened in about 6 minutes time.  I had bought a 1/2 gallon of rainbow sherbet ice cream.  I was doing a good job of basically grabbing a spoonful here and there just to wet the whistle.  Literally like enough to cover a small spoon 2-3 times.  Not even half a scoop.  Well, this time, I made the prime mistake.  Kristyn and I had just started watching season 2 of the new "Wonder Years."  At the commercial, I wanted to get the ice cream, so I grabbed it and sat on the couch.

Well, by the time about 6 minutes had gone by, I had finished the whole thing. (Basically, half of the container.)  I knew it was happening. I kept telling myself to put it away, but I just kept going.  It was a significant amount of ice cream.  And I believe that this binge was the nail in the coffin turning a good day into a bad one.  This is something I'm going to have to work on and be very careful about.  In reality, I need to stop having ice cream in the house.  But that's hard, since my kids also love ice cream.

WEIGHT LOSS UPDATE:  So, after all that, as of 7/8/23 I am up 1.1 pounds from yesterday and down 5.3 from the beginning of day 1.  Still, a great 1st week.  BUT definitely put me back in my place when I was really starting to think this was going to be easy.  Time to get to work.

All of this being said, it's a slow and steady plan.  I can't expect to lose every day.  And I don't see the actual day as a failure.  I had a GREAT day - especially compared to how I typically eat when I'm not trying at all.  BUT, it's sort of like when you have 50 people in a band and 25 of them play really soft dynamics when they are supposed to but 25 of them just keep blowing away at forte. The ones that don't pay attention to the detail end up covering up those who do.  So on the scale, my sherbet binge overshadowed the awesome rest of the day.

Try to do better tomorrow night.
