Hey everyone. Guess what?!?!?!?!?! I'M BAAAACCCKKKK!!!!!!!!!!
I have been hemming and hawing about bringing it back. I almost started it a few times, but then I never really got myself into it. I didn't want to start and then give it up after a couple days. I wanted to really be into it.
On Sunday, 7/2/23, I decided it was time to get back on track for good. I was actually in a good place a few months ago. THEN, Conor was born and I have pretty much just given up on all the rules. 3 months in, it's time to worry about me again, so here we go!
No special rules right now. Just plain ol' accountability, story-telling and hopefully, some weight loss. Here we go!
Breakfast: For my first day of this run, I wanted to start off solid. Giuliana wanted eggs, so I had eggs too! This is about 2.5 scrambled eggs on 247 Wheat toast. The Gatorade you see is all I drank. It was in the fridge and I wanted to get rid of it, so I drank it!
I had gotten into a good groove of not having bagels and Red Bulls in the morning after a little bit of a blood pressure scare in February, but then I feel off the wagon and got used to a bagel and a red bull in the morning for the past 6-8 weeks. On vacation last week, I sort of weened off the Red Bulls and now I'm gonna try to stay away, for the most part.Lunch: Since I was going to get on track here, I had to hit the supermarket. I grabbed some good stuff to give myself some choices for the upcoming week. This led me to something i have no done in quite awhile - a SALAD! I had my usual lettuce, chick peas and cucumbers with red wine vinegar. I added to this 1 slice of yellow american cheese and a single spicy chicken patty (which is a 230 calorie piece of chicken.) This was a really nice supplement to the salad and cooked really quickly and easily in the air fryer for 8 minutes. Juicy and crispy at the same time. Good stuff! I have pictured the package of chicken, just in case you want to check it out. These are in the refrigerator section at Shoprite and have been a go-to for years. BUT the air fryer makes these so much better because it's quick and easy and you don't need to preheat the oven anymore!
Pre-Dinner: Since Conor' 3 month birthday had just passed, I had to make the pizza for his 3 month photos. I cut it into 12 slices, for obvious reasons, and ate 2 slices. These were really tiny slices and it was really a little snack. I mean, Joey ate 5 slices of this pie.
So at night, Kristyn and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary - about a week late. We were on vacation during our anniversary and decided to schedule our night out for when we got home. Kristyn used to babysit for a Broadway actress, Liz McCartney. She was doing a 1-woman Cabaret with a piano accompanist at "The Green Room 42" in Yotel on 42nd street/10th Ave. It was really a great show! So much fun. She sounded great, was really funny and kept us smiling for about 90 minutes.
Dinner: With this show, came dinner. It was a limited menu, so all I really liked on it was the burger. I got the burger with bacon on it, with french fries. I also had 1 beer. It was a "5 Boros Summer Ale" which was really tasty.
Check this place out. Seems like a really cool venue. Was a good atmosphere and looks like they have this type of entertainment nightly. https://www.thegreenroom42.venuetix.com/
Now this is where things get a little shaky.
Snack: After the show, Kristyn wanted to walk around a little bit and maybe find a little dessert . It was still early and we were a couple blocks from Times Square. So we are walking and Kristyn spots this:
I happen to really enjoy Portnoy's videos and reviews. I don't necessarily agree with them all, but I find his videos really fun and entertaining. So I looked it up. He had literally just posted his review of this place 2 weeks ago. He gave it a 7.9, which is pretty high for him. I grabbed a slice. It was decent. Not amazing, like Sal and Carmine's that I had the week prior. (Todd Stoll, the education director at Jazz @ Lincoln Center, recommended it to me and said that Sal & Carmine's was the best pizza in NY. It was REALLY GOOD!) So Zillions Pizza - not earth Shattering. Not Sal & Carmines. Not Bruno's. But pretty good. I enjoyed it.
SNACK #2: This pizza stop was NOT exactly what Kristyn had in mind, so we kept going. We ended up hitting Carlo's Bake Shop. I got a crumb Cake. To be honest, this was not really all that good. It was a little dry and not exactly the tastiest. I should have gotten the Black & White Cookie or the chocolate cupcake, but I really thought they would crush the crumb cake. I guess coming off of Styretown Bakery's crumb cake a couple weeks ago at Don Winston & Friends after party, I should have known better than to try any other crumb cake at any point any time soon, but I did . Oh well. It was still good - just not really worth the calories.
So this was it for day 1. Started off great. Ended . . . . .. . well, imperfect. But all in all, not a terrible first day coming off of the way I had been eating recently. I think I can build off of this and will continue to improve. I am aware of today's faults and won't make excuses for them, although I know circumstances led me down an imperfect path and I will do better.
Thanks for checking in. Let's do it again tomorrow!!!!!
**BTW - I'll give you a preview - I lost 1.8 pounds on day 1**
